Altagracia Faith and Justice Works organizes Social Justice Ministry teams in local parishes, which address local community social justice issues. Each team determines the specific topics through a process of faith formation, discernment, reflection, and participatory decision-making process. Team members discuss their lived experiences in the community, share about the needs, think about the roots of the problem and which laws, policies, and decision-makers have influence over these needs and issues, reflect on how faith can inform and inspire and enlighten our perspectives on the issue, and then together form a plan of collective action, followed by evaluation and celebration. The focus of many teams recently has been affordable housing and the Inwood NYC rezoning process.
