Project-based Intern for the Global Thinking, Local Action, Universal Impact (GLU) Youth Service-learning program

  • Type of position: Hybrid Intern (some remote work possible, some in-person work may be requested/required)
    • Time Commitment:
      • Approximately 6-10 hours per week (can be adjusted based on job description, work study requirements, and availability of intern in consultation after interview)
    • Description of Activities: In addition to the health crisis the corona virus pandemic has caused, the world is also faced with new challenges in adapting communication and educational programming.  Pre-Covid-19, Altagracia typically offered week-long in-person service-learning sessions to local high school students during their breaks from school.  Each session focused on themes like “Hunger and Food Justice,” “Environmental Justice,” etc. and involved hands-on service as well as guest speakers, group activities, and a final project to illustrate the social justice context. In light of covid-19 and social distancing guidance, we ran a fully remote/virtual program on “Housing and Homelessness” in February 2021 and an in-person/hybrid model on “Hunger and Food Justice” in July 2021. Now, as more people become vaccinated, and as the Delta variant continues to spread and case numbers of unvaccinated continue to rise, given our experience with different models, we continue to explore ways to adapt this program and keep everyone safe, while offering the highest quality, interactive, experiential program for students.  The Hybrid Intern would:
    • Conduct Program research on best practices
    • Develop Programs and propose appropriate adaptations for Spring 2021
    • Collaborate on grant research to find appropriate funding prospects and proposal development to write up the research and program development plan

      •  Create, update, and maintain social media updates for the GLU program
      •  Create, update, and maintain appealing visuals to be used for GLU program flyers, mailings, grant applications, website content, social media content, and general promotion
    • Facilitate some of the GLU Program sessions, depending upon availability (i.e. icebreakers, intro talks and/or small group break-out discussion groups)
    • Skills and Competencies: Experience and/or interest in devoting time to learning the above areas in Description of Activities.  Beginners welcome.
  • Flexibility, innovation, collaboration, resourcefulness and creativity are key!
